At the intersection of Highway 65 and Interstate 80 lies one of California’s fastest developing cities, Rocklin. Surrounded by rolling hills and an extraordinary view of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the northeast and the Sutter-Butte Mountains in the west, Rocklin was named one of Family Circle Magazine’s “10 Best Towns” for families in America in 2008.
Rocklin was first known as a stop along the transcontinental railroad in 1864 at the same time granite mining began. In 1893 the city was incorporated. By 1910 there were 22 granite quarries operating in Rocklin. In 1912, when the state capital was built, nearly 2,000 train car loads of granite were shipped out of town for that construction.
Spring Valley Ranch was founded in 1855 by the Whitney family. The ranch raised sheep and a wide variety of agricultural products. The Whitneys constructed 25 miles of crushed rock roads, 12 granite bridges, barns, stables and housing for 200 ranch hands and their families on their expansive 30,000 acre ranch which is now considered the first settled property in Rocklin. Eventually the ranch was sold and divided by a variety of development concerns and became part of suburban communities in Sacramento. This led to the development of the Sunset Whitney neighborhood, with exclusive homes built around a beautiful golf course which bears their name.
Rocklin has preserved many of the stone bridges that were built over streams on the Spring Valley Ranch and planned parks around them. It is the ideal place for a young family to live, work and grow; with excellent schools, ample recreational offerings, high quality of life and a commitment to public safety above all. Rocklin real estate comes in all price ranges, making it ideal for the first time buyer or those in pursuit of the luxury home with a small town atmosphere.
The Rocklin Unified School District is one of the best in California and is known for strong academic performance with the highest levels of success in academics, athletics, and arts by students. The district consists of 17 schools (11 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 2 comprehensive high schools, 1 continuation high school, and 1 independent charter school.)
Only 20 minutes from Lake Folsom, 30 minutes from Old Sacramento, and less than 2 hours from the Pacific Ocean, Lake Tahoe, and San Francisco, you are never too far away from something to do. The Rocklin Golf Course and Whitney Oakes Golf Club offer scenic 18-hole championship golf courses to the public.
Rocklin supports 30 established parks and 200 acres of open space with numerous recreational programs for youth and adults. Small businesses provide most of the shopping, dining and entertainment needs in the area. The Blue Oaks Town Center provides a local shopping center with national businesses. There is also a local antique mall.
Planned neighborhoods like Sunset Whitney, Stanford Ranch, Whitney Ranch, and Whitney Oaks are only about 30 mile from Sacramento, making them the perfect homes for those who work in the bigger city but wish to live outside the rush and noise.
