There are many gated communities in ibn our Northern California communities. Most of the upscale neighborhoods being built now are gated or have security, and many of the older master-planned communities offer this extra privacy.

There are different reasons that it is preferable to be in a secure community.  Usually, there will be less traffic, and what traffic there is, will be your neighbors. You will almost never see a tractor-trailer or other offensive type of vehicle. Most of the better neighborhood HOA's will prohibit these types of vehicles being parked inside it, as well. It won't work out that a street in the community will end up being a shortcut from one part of town to the other.

Since most of the more exclusive neighborhoods are gated, it may well increase the property value of the homes therein. It better allows for privacy in a community pool or park, since most outside children won't know one exists unless they've been to a friend's house. We think it may even create a closer "neighborly" atmosphere, and encourage friendships and get-togethers. There are lots of reasons why gated homes are desirable!
