The unincorporated town of Granite Bay got its name from a bay in Folsom Lake on the east side of the town. The whole town is sitting on granodiorite rock dating back to the Cretaceous Age. Summer days are hot with an average high of 95 but the cool evening breeze brings the evening temperatures to an average of about 60. Winters are mild with average temperatures in the 40's and 50's.
A bedroom community to the Sacramento area, the town covers 25 square miles. Granite Bay mainly consists of exclusive, gated communities with elite, upscale homes, large estates and horse ranches, built around the Granite Bay Golf and Country Club. On the north shore of Folsom Lake at the foot of the Sierra Mountains, it is only about 25 miles from Sacramento and less than 2 hours from Lake Tahoe.
Some of the exclusive neighborhoods include the elegant, gated Granite Bay Hills, The Grove (a mix of Mediterranean and California style), gated Greyhawk (near the Granite Bay Golf Club), Hillsborough (a gated community of custom homes), Los Lagos (a gated and guarded community which borders Folsom Lake), The Residences (a gated community across from the Granite Bay Golf Club), Wedgewood (a friendly gated community of high-end homes), Treelake Village ( a family-friendly area with newer built homes where kids can walk to school), Ashley Woods (a gated community with custom homes), and Wexford (a gated and guarded community of very high end homes next to The Granite Bay Golf Club).
Horses are an integral part of Granite Bay with places like The Royal Oaks Equestrian Center, Ride to Walk (Therapy for neurological disabilities), Los Lagos Equestrian Inc., and Patriot Farms Equestrian Center. There are 2 passive parks, 6 active parks, 1 public tennis court and 1 private court.
For parents, the Eureka Union School District serves grades K-8 and continues with the Granite Bay High School. It is one of the most accomplished school districts in California and one of the only districts with its own parent supported educational foundations.
With a high quality of life, a wonderful location, award winning schools, outstanding recreational options, a variety of churches and a low crime rate, this is a very desirable place to raise a family.
