Alberto, who went by “Betito,” dreamed of seeing a dinosaur in person. So Rooms of Hope took him and his family to a private showing of dinosaurs.

This incredible organization provides dream room makeovers to children in the San Francisco Bay Area battling life-threatening illnesses or conditions.
They are able to serve both homeowners and renters in the Bay Area at no charge to the family. They hope to give back a little bit of control to sick children who often lose their say in daily activities, including going to school or having play dates because of their depressed immune systems and need for medical attention.
Bringing hope and joy to the child and their family by creating spaces that matter is what they’re all about. They also provide siblings with their own mini-dream-room makeover — because they deserve some TLC too!
Ways to Support Rooms of Hope
Rooms of Hope would not be able to serve these children and their families without the help and support of their volunteers and donors. Whether you live in the Bay Area near their location, or live in the Sacramento area and want to help in a remote way, below are several ways you can get involved:
Be the catalyst that makes the creation of a room possible! There are several levels of sponsorship to consider as a team or an individual.
Enjoy an evening out and attend one of their fundraisers to help support their mission. You can see their latest event above for an example of the fun you could have!
Each child’s room is completely funded by donations from private individuals, local businesses, corporations, and faith organizations. If you would like to help carry out this mission, you can make a donation of funds, products, and/or services. Click the link above to see a list of items that they need on an ongoing basis.
Donations are vital to keeping Rooms of Hope in action. If you are able and interested, they accept donations in all forms including cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, Pay Pay, or in-kind services and merchandise.
They have countless volunteer opportunities to get involved in. You can be a part of the room creation process, the fundraising process, or fill general needs like IT support or graphic design work.

Refer a Child in the Bay Area
Rooms of Hope’s latest child, Blake, a 3-year-old who is bravely battling brain cancer, poses with her parents in her “Moana Dream Bedroom!”
Interested in referring a child in the Bay Area to this organization? Once a child is referred, Rooms of Hope will contact the family and schedule a time to go out to their home with one or more of their volunteer interior designers. At this meeting, they will discuss needs, wants and desires for the space(s).
Then they go back to their offices to design the space(s), buy materials and organize the team. This planning phase takes anywhere between 1 to 3 months, on average. Rush makeovers take less time and are modified, as such. Then it’s the start of the makeover day!
The makeover usually averages 2 to 3 days. While they are building the dream rooms, they always house families at a hotel or work with the hospital to house the family accordingly. When they are done, depending on what the family wants, they host a reveal with the volunteers who worked at the build. Most children love this, but for families who would prefer not to meet 15 to 20 strangers, they can host a mini-reveal with just a few key Rooms of Hope people/volunteers, or none at all. It’s about the family and what supports them in the best way.
